I have been loving me some bell x1 for awhile now. Rocky Took a Lover is just wonderful song about a man waking up next to a women and exploring life, as they wake up on a street corner.

Bell x1 has a new album coming out in April and I am very excited about it. I have heard two tracks from the album and i think it could be their best so far. I hear more passion and drive in the melodies.

Goodbye Record Stores

I am sad that record stores are dying out. Very sad. And even sadder that the ones that are still around over charge for music and think that the Beatles and Radiohead are the only good bands ever. It's sad.

I miss the days of 7.99 cd sales.

my changes in music

Yeah yeah... It's been awhile (cliche)

I was recently listening to BELLX1 new song called "Hey Anna Lena" and realized my every so changing/evolving taste in music. My roots have a long lines reaching to different parts of music, country, CCM, Indie, alternative, hip hop to classical.

I love that I enjoy different types of music, from different time periods and different artists. I love that moment when I hear a song for the first time and it just shakes me up. It makes me recall a memory or it allows me to cherish the time that I am living in.

Songs can be such a different experience. For example, I am not in love with the beginning of the new BellX1 song but the build up, the emotion and the ending are great. It's like you know you will get to that point and in that point of the song you find release or freedom in the melody.

LOST = COMMUNITY

It is somewhat late this evening, I am still awake by the Christmas tree that is lightly dimming our family room. I am listening to the beautiful and emotionally charged score from LOST by Michael Giacchino. Pondering over the year and thinking about all the twists and changes that 2010 brought.

Six months after the final episode of LOST: I continue to miss it. I have thought about the message of LOST (which was nice put in the NBC's Christmas episode of Community) and how that should play out in my own life. I feel 2011 will bring a time for me to rewatch LOST, to open the chapters again and begin to read about the journey of some friends, an island and how to live life.

I am sad that there are no more episodes to look forward too or even people around me to continue the discussion of that actual meaning of the LOST. I am sadden by this.

However, there is a little hope for something new. Despite it being a comedy, or not hitting as strong as emotional chord, or even story of life. The show, Community is turning into something I like. It has the same message as LOST in the long run.

"Who is in our lives, Who is willing to live life with us, shape and in pack our lives."

Maybe LOST was time for me to learn, to think, to wonder, to hurt and to feel.
Maybe Community is a time for me to laugh, to look around, to enjoy and celebrate that community.

I probably do not make much sense which is okay. I have been thinking about how we should live our lives. How community is something that helps us no matter what situation we are in or who we are dealing with. The people we have community with is who allows us to show love, show grace, so peace, so everything that we are called to be.

I am looking forward to more community with people. Living lives together and growing together.

LOST "THE END" FINAL THOUGHTS

I am finally breaking my silence when it comes to the last episode of LOST, called “The End.” I wanted to wait for a week, sit and think about the final moments. Watch it again and read other people’s thoughts on the ending. I found myself really bothered by people’s negative remarks towards the ending, but I will get to that later.

I liked the ending and after rewatching it, discussing it and thinking it over. I would have to say, “I loved it and thought it was beautiful.” I enjoyed the story, the redemptive theme that story created, and the fact that community and love were key elements of the end game. I may not agree with the theory of the afterlife/ purgatory but it is their story and I am merely reader of it. (I believe LOST was a different type of TV show compared to a CSI, Glee and even shows like Mad Men).

LOST had good characters, mysteries and even theological topics. As a viewer we began the journey with Characters absolutely clueless to where they were and what had happened to them. Throughout the entire series, we learned about the mysteries of the Island and how these characters began to have community with one another. We connected to the show because we connected to the characters and not the mysteries. If we took the characters out of the story of LOST and allowed the mysteries to control everything, we all would have stopped watching in Season 2-maybe even Season 1.

In the finale episode, we get the conclusion to these stories. I loved how some characters died, some stayed on the island and others left. The more I thought about the sideways world, it was striking and amazing how this television show could grab your attention by using six years of character development to make these 20 second “awaking moments” so real. LOST has always been about the characters.

We felt connected to the characters and felt their sadness when someone had died or found joy with a simple phone call between two lovers. We felt sympathy when the great villain of the show asks the question, “Who will have me?” and then grace is shown when his enemy responds with “I will.” We felt joy for each character as they awaken with their loved ones next to them. LOST wanted us to feel life and to know that community and love are key in this world.

As for the mysteries, Yes, I do feel like I did not get all the answers I wanted. However, the characters in the show did not get all the answers. The writers of the show treated its audience like it’s characters. We learned what was going on as the characters learned what was going on. That structure of the story is what made LOST a great television show. It allowed us to feel part of the journey on the island and gave us the same opportunities to have the conversations that characters had on the show. We ended the show with the same amount of information as the characters on the show had. So I am satisfied with how they ended with all the mysteries of the Island. Figuring out all mythical and unexplainable things of the show is just like life. Sometimes there are no answers.

You may disagree with me. I am fine with that. However, I am not fine with how people have verbally destroyed the final episode. I have read people’s remarks about the ending saying, “ That was terrible”, “Absolute Rubbish”, “Boo LOST” and many more. I am shocked with these responses because they are so harsh and destructive towards the art of story telling. These comments are claiming that there was no beauty within the episode and that nothing in the finale impacted them. I find this extremely hard to believe.

My friends are people who are in love with being in and part of community and who delve into conversations around the creation of art. Beauty and our souls are the inspiration of art. Living intentionally together and sharing our lives with one another is community. How can we say such critical things towards someone trying to promote these ideas? How can we call ourselves artists and use such words to harsh words to describe someone else’s art? Is this life giving? I believe we are called to find beauty within art and be able to discuss the themes in a positive way. Not to use such insensitive language. Maybe this is a lesson that I have learned over the years about being critical of other people’s art and trying to be more aware of my words.

Like I said earlier, I do not agree with the theology of the ending of LOST but I found it beautiful and the delivery of the concept of the end. I left the episode sad but complete with the story. I am okay with not knowing every mystery of the show. The authors treated us like the characters and allowed us to know as much as the characters knew in the story. They gave clues, like puzzle pieces, for us to go back, put the bits together and discuss the outcome of these mysteries.

These are my thoughts on “The End” of LOST. I thought the episode was awesome. The music was emotionally effective in the story line and the acting was probably the best I have seen in LOST. I cannot listen to the song called “There’s No Place Like Home” from Season 4 soundtrack without seeing the image Jack next to Vincent. I choke up thinking about it. I am sad that is done. I am happy to see it all, to finish the novel and say, “this was a damn good read.”

ps.... Thank You writers for making me like Kate's character at the end.

I recently made a playlist called "Home". I have been thinking about the idea of home and where that may be in life. We talk about where we were raised, or the house we currently live in. Some people think of Home as Heaven or a play where their is a community of friends.
I think in this season of my life. I want to explore this idea of "home" and how it is a place where I belong. To belong, to own, to be comfortable, to have peace. In the next couple of months, I want to do a project on "home" and what is means to "belong" there.

my dad and music

driving to work today, i was listening to a song. it has strings like some smooth song from the 1970's. it was the type of song that made you want to tap your foot and let your ears enjoy the melody (because 70's music was all about the melody).

it also made me think about music and my dad. if do not know, my father had cancer when i was 8 and six year later died when i was 13. at the time i was not into music or film. i enjoy the outdoors and playing in the basement of our old massachusetts house.

in that basement, i used to find records that were my fathers from his younger days. he had queen, led zepplin and all the classic in vinyal. i remember as a kids driving in the car with him and he would turn up the radio. Jamming out to Queen's Bohemien Rhapsody i remember, it was the first time i heard the song, my father saying, "wait for it, wait for it" (then playing air guitar) and going to the stranger lyrics of the song. He knew all the lyrics. Every single one. It was always a strange sight to see because my father was a big time banker in Boston. He always wore a suite and tie to church and work. His casual clothes always seemed to have a collar on it and his mustache always trimmed.

Now, i wonder if David Loy would sit down and listen to music with me. I wonder if my dad would want to go to Josh Rouse or The National concert or be eager to know that i love Paul Simon's "American Tune". As i drove to work, I wonder if he would enjoy having conversations with me as a person. Would he randomly call me during the week and ask me questions about what is going on in my life. Would David Loy want to know if he would try to be one of my best friends. Or at least fly down and go to a Toad the Wet Sprocket concert.

I know these questions will probably never be answered. It makes me wonder about my kids and how they will want to see me as a father. I want to be a good father.

Lately, Andrew (my brother) has put together old family films of us. I watch my father as a ghosts in these films but the memories are very real. And I want to ask him he would enjoy listening to Damien Rice or Andrew Bird but no response. Then I think about a story my mom likes to tell me about one of their first dates together. They drove 30 minutes in the snowy plains to go see Fleetwood Mac and Three Dog Night at Westminister College. Maybe these stories and memories are conversations that i long for.

Josh Rouse & Brad Jones: Free Music

I have always enjoyed Josh Rouse music. "1972" was the first Rouse album that I fell in love with, next to "Nashville". Rouse's uses the combination of strings with the classic hook of a singer-songwriter feel to deliver quality music and express life to it's fullest.

Brad Jones is the producer of both "1972" and "Nashville" and have a very districtive style on how he produces his music. Honestly, he is probably one of my favorite people when it comes to music production. He has a great understanding of music and how to capture the emotion and tense of the music. ( I am going to write more on Brad Jones soon, so look forward to that)

With all of this being said, Josh Rouse and Brad Jones have teamed up again for a new album that will be released in February of 2010. It's entitled "El Turista" meaning the tourist. I have heard some of the tracks from the album and it has a great feel of ocean waves and walking the streets of Spain. Their first single of the album is called "I Will Live On Islands" and you can download it free at Spinner ( click here for a download or http://www.spinner.com/2010/01/08/josh-rouse-i-will-live-on-islands-free-mp3-of-the-day/ )If you look around on the internet, you can also find for free the song called "Valencia", but first brush up on your spanish.

On a more personal note: I heard this song and loved it. Listening to the lyrics in more dept, I found that I somewhat realate to the person the song. No, I am not in jail but the feeling of being captured. I am happy to know, that there a good feelings songs out there. Ones that I can sympathize with and tap my toes.

Fortune Cookies

I am just having a bad day. It's monday. I haven't heard back from the job. they were out of Dr.Pepper so i had to get a Sierra Mist. The sky can't figure out if it wants to rain or stay light gray. It's just been one of those days.

Until....

I walked down the hall way into Ms. Cherry's office. On her desk is a basket full of Fortune cookies. (now if you know me, I have weird likeness to fortune cookies. I enjoy them and there bland taste). Ms. Cherry tells me to take hand fulls of them to bring back to my office. yes, she said "hand fulls". She tells me she order about 100 cookies from a place instead they sent her 1,000 cookies.

It made my day.

So now I am sitting in my office, listening to some joshua james and eating fortune cookies.

I used to post a lot about music on my blog here. However, I have been busy this year doing film projects and such and within those projects sharing a lot of the music i love. i will say that i have been a bit disappointed with the music this year. A lot of artist had promises with their new albums and i believe dropped the ball hard core. here are the top five albums that i loved this year. enjoy:

6) Sea Sew by Lisa Hannigan: Damien Rice's partner in crime, goes solo and delivers a wonderful project. It is one of those albums, that you can relax and feel like you are on a first date. Check out , "Teeth", "I Don't Know" and Ocean and a Rock.

5) Your Side Now by Trent Dabbs: Listen to the title track "Your Side Now" and Dear Jane", they are simple great songs. Fun to sing and actual have some meaning behind them.

4) Traces by Peter Bradley Adams: I was surprised about this album. It's pure americana sound and pleasure to listen too. Key songs to check out are "Traces", "Something About You Lately, and "From the Sky" and "Family Name".

3) The Road: Soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis: Just beautiful!

2) Back and Fourth by Pete Yorn: Listen to sobering song called "Social Development Dance", It strikes a core of lost memories and ghosts that step in and quickly out of your life.

1) Build Me This by Joshua James- You should check out the songs "pitchfork" and daniel". Pitchfork just reminds me of norman rockwell picture and is a lovely little tune. daniel is a powerful song about war and God. The entire album is struggle with loving life, faith within war and disagreeing with the world.

i was asked to make a film that symbolized the Old Testament and how Israel was crying out for the LORD to deliver them. We are entering the Christmas Season and I love knowing the history of us preparing for Christ and the connection to the Old Testament books. In house church, we started from the beginning of time to the day the Christ was born. We talked about the verses throughout the Old Testament.

ALL THINGS

It has been over 4 years since "ALL THINGS" was shown. It was viewed once at the 2005 dcf film festival; then lost due to computer issues and hasn't seen the light of day.
I was in New England in September and discussed with Andrew about allowing me to take a crack at putting together the film and adding a some new touches. It took me about three weeks to put the film together. I remember shooting the film and recalling how it was a very difficult schedule. I discovered editing the film followed the tradition.
However, today I submitted to Andrew this afternoon and he loved the edit ( there was an earlier edit that was only 18 minutes) and the new songs that were add to the sound track. Andrew and I discussed about changing some songs to make the film more enjoyable.
Since "All Things" was shot and first shown, I learned new ways to edit and increased my music collection. There are a few hip-cups and such but I love how the film turned out. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to comment.

it seems the only time i sit down and write. is when i can't sleep. i woke up this morning thinking it was six am and when i looked at the clock it was two am. I got a few more hours of sleep but woke up around five wide awake. the sun has not risen yet, and outside you can hear the stirring of the day beginning.
i need some music to listen too. however, i need something that sets the mode of the morning. i put on some joshua james (pitchfork and crash this train) and begin to unfold the expectations of the day. it is somewhat typical. shower, driving my car, interacting with people, being nice to my bosses, missing my wife, driving some more, helping others plan out their future, make a few jokes, return home, dinner, a little fun evening fun and then bed.
while laying in bed, i thought about life. i thought about all the choices that i have made. how they collide with other choices. i recall old road trips, hard choices, concerts, friends from the past, family, death, moments that always make me smile, awful music and many more. thinking over all of these moments, i see how Christ has shown up.
i have nothing really profound to say, but merely that i see it occurring. i think sometimes God awakens me in the morning to make me ponder over and over about life. to take a moment and realize that i am alive. breathing and enjoying the color blue.

claire asked me to make her a mix full of irish tunes from my itunes. while i was putting together a collection of fun, whiskey drinking, toe tapping and story telling tunes. I then remembered Kate Rubsy. Anyone heard of her? Well if not, you should. Check out the album called "Ten" which is a greatest hits collection. Her voice is heart-breaking and her story telling (that is how irish sing by the way) whimsickle!
"Ten" reminds me of winter of 2004. I remember driving to westboro, ma and going to six or seven record shops trying to find this record before i returned to college. I finally found it in a borders books. It was winter time, snow was on the ground and sun was going down. Irish music has wonderful winter emotions. I know it is summer. but it feels good to feel cold. At least when it is 95 outside.

its late.
i have work in the morning and my body isn't tired. ever since i have been young. i have had problems sleeping. i lay awhile in my bed in the dark and allow my imagine to take control over me. I hear cars flying by my window and the wind shaking the wooden floor in my hall way.
I finally give up. Wrestle through the house to find earphones without waking my wife.
First into my left ear and then my right right ear.

I closed my eyes and imagined flying in space. Imagine myself lost within the dark with pin holes of light all around me. It is quiet. It is still. I pray for awhile, asking for God to make my path clear. I take a breathe.

I put on Glen Phillips Ep. called "Secrets of the New Explorers". For me, it's a little musical journey while I lay awake within my sleepless head. These songs are a departure from his traditional work but a breathe of fresh and bizarre feel. It takes a few listens to get the direction but listen to the lyrics and allow the emotion of searching and loneliness seek in. The one thing I love about Glen Phillips music is that he brings a tangable approach to human emotion of sadness but always finds a way to leave you with a bit hope to carry on. I like that. Below are two songs from the Ep. "Secrets of the New Explorers". I am enjoy them greatly as I lay awake tonight.

Just an update: within the next week, you will be able to see my new movie. It is different from my others and so far I enjoy it. I am still in the process of finishing up the final touches in the film. It can be tricky. The soundtrack for this short feature will be different than what I usually do also. It may have the same feel better there is a difference than what I have already done in the past. That is the update for now. Keep the eyes peeled to see it.

It is raining here. My soul needs the rain today. I was searching around and I saw this video. Not sure, but I liked it. I already liked the song from Travis because of all the changes in the song and dramatic effect that is has.

I guess I can relate to his video. As of late, I have been feeling stuck and just frustrated and waiting. Maybe that is why I like this. I have sympathy for the individual. However, I think I would probably have sympathy for him even if I was not feeling this way.

this week has been a tough week for me. I recently bought the new William Fitzsimmons album called "The Sparrow and the Scarecrow". When reading the liner notes, he dedicate the album to the "heartbroken and those who's had to break hearts".I find the topic so beautiful to dedicate an entire album too. Cheers to him.
There is a song on the album called, "If you come back home" which just fits my mood today. The lyrics above are from the album and it just fits where I am right now. I want that surgeon to come and fix me.
I have been sad this week. A lot of sad things, conversations and topics have occurred and there seems to be no easy fix. I see the people around me and I see the hurt and pain. I see how my generation is about numbing themselves from feeling any emotions (at least negative ones). In the middle of my anger and confuse I want to find that numbness. Instead, this week I have been spending the time within it all. It hurts. It proves to me that I need to hope in something more than a substitution. I need Christ. I need mercy and grace. However I feel stranded in a town. Five years and waiting.

SMA is going Global

You may be wondering what the heck the SMA is. SOCCER MOMS ANONYMOUS!!! and they are going GLOBAL.
I am sitting in a coffeeshop and the SMA walks in. They take over, there little kids run amuck and scream like teenage promo queen in a horror film. One almost comes to my table and takes my coffee. They are grabbing newspapers, misplacing objectcs everywhere, they are scaring costumers out the door. Meanwhile, the SMA enjoys there talkie talkie with one another and share there stories.
Are coffeeshop babysitting trap holes now? Is this what they do, take over a coffeeshop and let the munkins run crazy.
KIDS SHOULDNT DRINK COFFEE or they will turn into TOM CURSE.
we don't need another one of those!

As promised, here is the latest little video I have made called "In Love". We spent a few hours and shot this with no script really and flying by the seat of our pants. It was edited and put together within one night. I hope you all enjoy it. It was going to be called "Rudy's Revenge" but I changed it to make it more appealing. The Faces of Heatherwood

Around the end of July, the remaining few people of Heatherwood created a film for Nathan and Amie Elmore. It was made in 3 days and it was entitled "The Faces of Heatherwood". I have been asked by many people if I could post the film on here. So here we go. I had to break it up into three different parts due to the length of the film. Calling Sting!

I just got off the phone with the pop singer/lead singer of the infamous Police. Sting and I just had a long conversation about what is going on between Russia and Georgia. Also how this is effecting the world and Russia's policies with the US and Europe. In conclusion, I asked Sting to write another song to save our world. If you do not know what I am talking about. Sting wrote a song in the 1980's called "Russians", which I believe influence the fall of the USSR and the cold war. Sting has been away for awhile and we need his singer/songerwriter abilities soon. Calling STING!
Seriously. What the heck is Russia thinking!? I feel like they just like to causing problems because they are a giant country and want to make a statement on the world. I guess, Vladimir is the middle child dying for some attention. Another thing that is pissing me off, is that it is occuring during the Summer Oylimpics in China. Why would they invade during a time of peace all over. I am getting tired of such reckless and childish behavior among goverments.
Enough of this!

update on stuff:
1) i have a new podcast coming out this week. Looking forward to sharing some new music with you all (Sorry no Sting song). It is half way made and with the craziness of the past couple of weeks I am sorry it was not done last week.
2) i have a new idea for a short film. I am probably ripping somone off but i do not care. i merely just want to create.
3) Excited that Matthew Perryman Jones new album comes out in a week. If you do not know who that is. Listen to the new podcast. You will get a taste of his new album.

Yet again. I am in the coffee shop on Saturday. It was an early morning of cleaning out the car and washing it down. I have been sitting here for a little bit and listening to the radio playing in the shop. I have seen big hair, big glasses, sun tanned, fake baked, uninspired and bright eyed people waltzing through the doors like a giant wheel. In this moment I have been lost in the song that came over the loud speaker.
Atlantic City by Bruce Springsteen. It is a great song. It has that sound of a song that just feels right while drinking coffee, sitting still while the day begins and being in clothes from the day before. It reminds makes me want to have an adventure. Take the car and drive to the midwest and feel the blues of Americana.
Next I am listening to John Mayer Live from Tinkly Park in Illinois. He is playing the song called "Wheel" of his Heavier Things album. I think the song has been going on for about 10minutes and multiple jam sessions.
But that is all that is current. Not much else to talk about. Maybe a podcast soon.

Chewbacca Riding Falkor the Luckdragon

George Lucas is slowly killing my childhood with each film he produces or directs after 1998. I enjoyed the story telling of his galaxy adventures but felt it was to glossy. Then came a glimmer of hope with a new Indiana Jones film with influence from others (Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg) and again I felt let down. I blamed Spielberg and Lucas for distorting my view of a world traveling, historian adventurer with crooked smile. However, I feel like I should apologize to Steven Spielberg. This is from an article on "TimesOnline". This is a quote from George Lucas about making another Indiana Jones:
“If I can come up with another idea that they like, we’ll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn’t that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one. Yet we still have the issues about the direction we’d like to take. I’m in the future; Steven’s in the past. He’s trying to drag it back to the way they were, I’m trying to push it to a whole different place. So, still we have a sort of tension. This recent one came out of that. It’s kind of a hybrid of our own two ideas, so we’ll see where we are able to take the next one.”
I apologize to Steven because he got it. He understood that people like the past and the memories that they had with a character. People do not want characters to be reinvented or placed out of context (aliens and spaceships wft?). It is like sticking Chewbacca in Lord of the Rings or him paling around with Falkor the Luck dragon. Just take a second and imagine Chewbecca riding Falkor ( I bet Lucas thought of this idea and wanted it for his ending credits for the Attack of the Clones).
What I am trying to say here is this. George Lucas continues to play the card that he is the creator of this amazing mythology of characters in these stories and he can do whatever he wants because of this. (This may go against my philosophy about art and what I like to encourage with what I am about to say next) George Lucas stop making films. Stop trying to recreate something that does not need to be reinvented or the 2.0 version. I feel all of Lucas's pal sit around and continue to say yes to him because he created this over 20 something years ago and made millions off of it. Honestly, I love the originals and I could possibly have liked the loved the new ones (because I collect memories in dvd form, i own all of them. I probably haven't watch the 3 new ones since I bought them) but Lucas got in the way. Hence, slowly killing my childhood and all the adventures in my life with these characters. I guess people in the late 70's and early 80's could have seen this coming when George Lucas allowed a "Star Wars Christmas Special". After discovering this gem, I realized that this is all George's fault. He did not direct Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi or any Indiana Jones films. However, when he is involved greatly, he finds a way to make it look like Chewbacca riding Falkor the Luck dragon. If you have never seen or heard of about this. Check out the video below. Watch the whole thing and you will see how bad it is.

Doesn't that article make you upset. That there was hope of making something better and realizing that its own director had to bend a lot and still was not thrilled about the script. It made me sad to read this article which inspired me to write about how I feel about George Lucas slowly killing my Childhood, one movie at a time.

Update: I may have spoken to soon about Mr. Spielberg. I read another article today from New York Times about how "Hollywood is Losing Spielberg". I was curious on what this article had to say about this director who everyone loved and adored. However, according to this report it seems like Spielberg is interested in one thing (money) which explains why he caved in making a flashy Indiana Jones movie. "The pending deal with Reliance underscores some realities about Mr. Spielberg — mainly that he has become so expensive that few public companies can afford him. Mr. Spielberg’s standard deal, on par with other blue-chip talent, is 20 percent of a movie’s gross from the first ticket sold, although he agreed to a somewhat less aggressive paycheck on the latest “Indiana Jones” installment to offset its high budget." The article continues to share how no one can work with him because he cost to much. My question is this. How much is to much? He has unlimited resources and millions of scripts. I know, I am contradicting what I said above. But Spielberg what happened to your art and passion? When did money become the sole reason for making movies.
It is sad to see people who created such amazing stories and engaging characters that shaped our culture and words. "But there was still an element of shock: Hollywood could not come up with a rich enough deal for Mr. Spielberg, the most bankable director in the business". I guess, the passion is gone.

Saturday Morning Coffee Shop

I will admit that I really enjoying going to a coffee shop ( hoping that there is barely anyone there) and sitting down and being grateful for the atmosphere. Currently, I am sitting in a comfortable chair, surround by soft conversations and relevant music to my life (alter -rock, americana style, I like it). It is a good feeling to have when you come into a shop, grab your cup of Joe and find your little spot in the bleak walls. I find that at first, i have to get a little bit comfortable but then that spot turns into a your home for a mere 1 or 2 hours. I also get thrilled when I am browsing the internet or pretending to read a book when I hear a favorite artist on the coffee shop loud speakers. "Ah, its Glen Phillips and just before him they played a Counting Crows song that was never a radio single". Its so refreshing to hear music that way. I think that is why radio is not dead yet and why mixed tapes (cd's whatever you want to call them) are so wonderful.
There are two moments in listening to music that I just adore. 1) The first time you hear a song. The moment you hear them sing into the bridge or chorus and it just stops you in your tracks. It is amazing, how many times that has happened to me. Sometimes it is just hits me the moment I am in ( later I go look up the song and it just doesn't fit anymore) and everything seems perfect for that song. Lately, I haven't really had any moments like that. Sad follows it.
2) It is the moments in the grocery store or coffeeshops or at a friends house. You hear a song that you haven't heard in forever or just wasn't expecting it. That amazing part about this phenomenon is that the song always sounds refreshing to me when you hear it out of context. I listen to cd's (yes I still buy them. Mainly because when the big crash occurs, with all computers, I will have a back up of all my tunes to help me get through the day when computers take over) multiple times and I get so used to the order of the album that it starts to get stale to me. So when you put together a mix and you change up the position and surround that song around other great songs. It just feels right. Or when your not expecting it, it just makes the song so much sweeter.
These are my thoughts while sitting in a coffee shop this morning. I taking in a nice Tom Waits song ( it took be a little to get passed the scratchy and bit off tune tones of his voice) and enjoying my 16oz cup of coffee with vanilla in it, two sugars and cream.

p.s. I wonder this: I know when I go to church and I notice that someone is waiting the same thing I am. I feel strange. Like if we are wearing the same green shirt and etc. So I just witnessed two girls meeting each other for the first time 1) a coffee maker and 2) coffee taker. Strange thing is, that they have the same exact hair cut. Is it weird for them to see each other? Is it the same feeling as when I see the same person wear the same green shirt? I think for guys, it is easy beacuse we have at least three different cuts. Short, semi short or long hair. Oh us people in the blue world, how we want to be the only one...
